The Indian Air Force – IAF invited for the courses commencing in January 2019 for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission (PC) / Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-technical) Branches. Online applications are also invited for grant of PC/SSC for Flying Branch through NCC Special Entry Scheme and Meteorology Entry.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT 2018

  • Flying Branch
    • Educational Qualification: 60% marks in Graduation with any discipline along with Phy & Math at class 10+2 OrE/B.Tech or 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).
    • Age limit: In between 02 January 1995 to 01 January 1999 (Both Dates inclusive). Upper age limit will be relaxed up to 26 years if you have valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India).
  • Ground Duty Technical
    • Educational Qualification: Obtained 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline along with Phy & Math at class 10+2 Or complete 4 years graduation or integration post graduation in Engineering or Technology or 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).
    • Age limit: In between 02 January 1993 to 01 January 1999 (both dates inclusive).
  • Ground Duty Non-Technical
    • Educational Qualification: Secured 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline and 60% marks in section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).     • Age limit: In between 02 January 1993 to 01 January 1999 (both dates inclusive)
  • Conduct of Online Testing for AFCAT Examination and Fee Structure: For the first time, online testing will be conducted for AFCAT entry in various AFCAT centers. Candidates registering for AFCAT entry will have to pay an amount of Rs. 250/- as examination fee. However, candidates registering for Meteorology entry and NCC Special entry are not required to pay any amount. Details of conduct, examination centres and mode of payment are given in the notification.

Selection Procedure

  • Here are the important information associated with AFCAT selection procedure, please go through the same.
    • There are various stages of the selection procedure.
    • Stage 1 will be an intelligence test. It is a kind of screening test after clearing which candidates will be able to go for further stages.
    • The second stage will include Psychological, Group Tests and Interview which will be organized over five subsequent days.
    • For Flying Branch: Candidates will have to undergone through a test conducted by Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS). It will be conducted once in a lifetime.

AFCAT 2018 Exam Pattern & Syllabus

    • If you have applied for flying branch and ground duty then you will have to appear for AFCAT only, whereas, candidates, those are applying for ground duty technical, they need to appear for both AFCAT as well as EKT.
    • The exam will be conducted over a period of 2 hours.
    • Questions are to be asked from Verbal Ability, General Awareness, Numerical Ability, Reasoning and Aptitude Test.
    • All the questions will be multiple choice questions in AFCAT.
    • The exam duration for the EKT will be 45 minutes.

    • Reasoning and military aptitude: Verbal skills and spatial ability.
    • Verbal ability in English: Error detection, Comprehension, vocabulary testing, synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion.
    • Numerical ability: Decimal fraction, ratio, average, simplification, profit and loss, simple interest.
    • General awareness: Art, Culture, geography, environment, history, current affairs, politics, basic science, civics.
